A Quick Recovery!

Sutton all ready in his hospital gown and heated blanket.

Well the blanket didn't last for long, and he wanted to be up and about! The gown was a little big for him. Isn't he cute???

We got to the hospital at 6:30 am this morning to get Sutton all checked in for his surgery! It went very quickly and then we had a somewhat impatient baby for 45 minutes until the doctor was ready to go. I held him most of the time, and we tried to distract him with walking around and Daddy playing peek a boo around the privacy curtain. He just wanted to eat, though. The nurse that was with him during the procedure, came and warned us that when it was time to take him, she would just take him. She said she's found, after years of doing this, that a prolonged "good-bye" doesn't help and generally makes things worse. So we had said all our "I love yous" before hand...and they did whisk him away, but he didn't even make a sound. Of course I still got all teary! But I think we both felt like he was in very safe hands with the doctor and medical staff, and more importantly, in God's safe hands! Dr. Papaila stayed with us just a couple of moments after they took Sutton, reassured us, and told us he completely understood. He said he has 3 kids of his own, and it doesn't matter how big they get, you still feel the same. He has fabulous bed side manner!

After about an hour and 15 minutes, Dr. Papaila came out with a big grin on his face, saying that Sutton did beautifully. The cyst had been right where he thought it was (if felt like it was just under the skin, but it was actually right next to the bone). they were able to do all internal stitches and use the "glue" on the outside of his skin. So we don't have any wound care to worry about! After about 15 more minutes we went back to recovery, and Sutton was still sound asleep on his side. He was all wrapped up in blankets, and I thought he looked just like he did when he was born! (only bigger, except he looked so tiny on the huge hospital bed. When he woke up, he wasn't very fussy at all, and was more than ready to take a bottle! Then he was ready to go home by 9:30am!

Once we've been home, he has been our normal little boy. Playing and bouncing in his Jumperoo right away, eating and taking a good nap! He just looks like he's got his first shiner!

Thank you for all your prayers and kind words. We could feel them throughout the day. Surprisingly, I was extremely calm and didn't worry too much, throughout the whole thing. Thank you, Thank you! Praise the Lord

On another quick note, Sutton's friend, Grant, came through his procedure just fine! I can't wait to see them playing together!!!

Sutton in the recovery room!

I took the opportunity to get a good picture of his LONG eyelashes!
Back at home grinning in his Jumperoo!

His first shiner!

It has bruised a little more since this picture was taken this morning! Poor guy!

  2. Ooooh, poor little Sutton!! I love the picture of him sleeping, so sweet and peaceful! I also think the hospital gown-baby size-is adorable on him! You did a great job keeping it together, Sara! I think I would've cried as soon as they took baby away! Happy and quick healing, Sutton!
