Making Sutton's all boy room a little girlie was a bit of a challenge. While it is not the room I would do for Sophie, if it was just for her, I was very pleased with how it turned out. I think it's a good boy and girl room! You can see the before pictures in this post.
Here is the view when you walk in the room. We managed to find another crib in the same style of Sutton's on craigslist.....YES! Sutton is still in his crib...we figure why rock the boat if he is still more than happy sleeping and playing in it!
(I forgot to hide the cords and Sutton's "Christmas" lights in the picture. Does that little guy ever LOVE his Christmas lights!"
I also added the valances. They have the ruffles that match Sophie's bed skirt. I used the same valances that were made for the windows in our living room. They were here when we moved in, but didn't match my decor. They had been under the couch for 2 years. It saved a lot of time and some money to reuse them!
These are two pictures that I designed and made. I saw something similar, and decided I would try to make it myself in Photoshop Elements. If you look closely, it is the alphabet over and over. In the blue picture, the word "BROTHER" is spelled in orange. In the the pink picture, the word "SISTER" is spelled in blue! It turned out perfect. We printed them out as posters and got the frames 50% off at Hobby Lobby!
Here is Sophie's side of the room. I made her bed skirt by choosing several fabrics that were similar colors to Sutton's bed skirt. Then I cut the fabric into strips, finished the edges, and used my new favorite sewing tool, a ruffle foot, to make ruffles....and sewed them on the brown fabric. It sounded SO simple in my mind.....but it was a lot more work than I realized.
The letters to make Sophie's name, above her crib, are from Hobby Lobby. I traced around them on the fabric I used for the ruffle and cut them out. Then I decoupaged them onto the front. The hanging flower pom poms are inspired by a kit from Martha Stewart. But they are made with colored napkins from Target!
Sophie's view from the crib. I'm thinking of buying little round mirror like things to put in the middle of the flowers. I thought that might really catch her interest....and look pretty!
We also replace the dresser/changing table to a larger one with more storage, and added the "box"for the changing pad. We got it all on craigslist...I LOVE craigslist!
I repainted it, and painted the drawer fronts with chalkboard paint. I then used a liquid chalk pen to write Sutton and Sophie's name on the drawer with a very amateur drawing of what is in the drawer. (with the hope of Sutton and Sophie being able to help put things where they belong.) I saw the idea on a blog.
This is the only before picture I took of the dresser....it didn't quite go with the room...pink and purple sponge painted! But it is a solid wood, awesome dresser!
Sutton's drawers are blue inside with new knobs that have blue dots on them.
I decided to do a little extra work and paint the inside of the drawers different colors for Sutton's and Sophie's. It was one of those things that, while I was doing coat after coat, (and I kept running out and having to buy more) I was thinking...WHAT WAS I THINKING?????
But now, every time I open them, it makes me feel a little more happy.
I know, it sounds crazy, but I don't care!
The inside of Sophie's drawers are purple with knobs that have purple dots
(all the knobs are also from Hobby Lobby @ 50% off)
(I don't know how this room would have come about without Hobby Lobby or craigslist!)
Guess what....I also found the lamps on craigslist! I painted them white and recovered the shades with ribbon I bought at The Ribbon Retreat.....love their site!
This is Sutton's lamp!
Here is a close up on one of the dresser drawers....it's Sutton's and has his shorts in it...or it will when he gets some new ones that fit for this coming summer!
This is the wall with the entry door. The rocking chair sits part way in front of the door to the bathroom...not the most ideal..but we make it work. We have some special books that were given to Sophie and Sutton, on the shelves. Also, are two BEAUTIFUL birth announcements that my Mom, aka Mema, crossed stitched for Sutton and Sophie.

Oh my goodness, what a blast from the past looking at Sutton's nursery pic post! The room looks nice, I love the lamps, they look great! The pom poms also look sweet....Cade still has her Christmas lights up too...totally okay! :) Great work!
