Cock A Doodle Do.......

Sutton LOVES eggs, he eats some almost every day! I've had a desire to buy more of our food locally. We are lucky enough to have a fabulous farmers market, literally, right around the corner from us. I've also found quite a few other local farmers markets, farms and ranches that sell food, eggs, meat and even more! Check out localharvest.org.

On Monday we went to a chicken farm and got some FRESH eggs. It was pretty neat to see the chickens that our eggs came from.
All the chickens come and greet us!!!
This chicken farm was SO clean, I couldn't believe how nice and peaceful it was out there....even with the rooster cock a doodle doin'!!!!

I think that these chickens were so pretty. It was really nice to see something besides the common white chickens.
The owner says she buys a different color variety each year. Then, just by looking at them, she knows how old they are. Their eggs start to get thin after about 2 years. Also, when they start laying eggs, they are little tiny eggs with tiny yolks! As they mature (usually 5 mo.) they have regular size eggs!
(Now isn't that more than you ever wanted to know about eggs and chickens!)

The owner, Janet, had a 12 year old son that LOVED Sutton. He was a big help keeping up with Sutton, who wanted to run around everywhere! (imagine that)

Sutton loved the chickens, but wasn't in a hurry to actually touch them!

We did leave with an injury!!! Although it wasn't caused by the chickens! Someone decided to run down the gravel driveway...and managed to fall face down in the gravel! He's just fine, though. Came through with flying colors. I think he'll go back and visit again!
