What a Little Fabric Can Do

Well, this post isn't going to be about Sutton, although he did make it in one picture. This is about what I've been up to!!! My friend, Lindsay, recently introduced me to a FABULOUS website called, The Nesting Place. It's all about making your house a home by shopping in your house, using fabric, and a little glue and tacks....plus a little more. The biggest thing..it doesn't have to be perfect. My friend Jessa, an interior designer, has been tell me that for ages, so with the same advice coming at me from both sides, I finally got it. My creative juices really started going, and I've been busy......but still have tons of ideas in my head that I better write down before I forget. Here are some pictures of some of my projects...some before and some after!

For our 10th anniversary, Chris and I decided to get new living room furniture. Here are the new sofa and chairs....then what I added.

BEFORE:

Here is the new sofa with pillows that I found on clearance at TJ Max and Wal-Mart. A little boring right now!!!

The window treatments left by the previous owners. Very nice and custom made...but wasn't the look that I wanted, and we'd like to be able to cover the windows! Would anyone like them for a low low price??

Now with no window treatments! The previous owners left the rug too! It works perfectly under the couch and "new" coffee table we got off craigslist. It already has some dents and scratches....so Sutton won't need to break it in!!! Notice the boring brassy light fixture in the "formal dining" (aka a place to put Sutton's stuff!)

AFTER:

New window treatments and updated pillows! I'm also working on two roman shades for the back doors. I just took one curtain panel and cut it to fit the window opening. I just need to hang them now! I also added some lamp shades on the light fixture. I'm going to paint it too!

Amazing what a little fabric and hot glue can do to some very boring pillows! I think they look like a million bucks!

I love this fancy trim on this pillow in the new chair.

I worked a little bit on the entry way too.

I bought these frames about 2 years ago and never used them. I just took pieces of fabric that I had laying around and leftover from the pillows and wrapped and hot glued it around the cardboard that is in the back of the frames. Then I made black and white copies of some pictures I liked and taped them on top of the fabric. The fabric now looks like fancy mats!

The other side of the entry way. We found this entry table on craigslist, also. The previous black one is now behind the sofa!
Guest Bathroom Before:

I painted this bathroom before we moved in. This isn't a totally before picture! I added the towel rings and hung this mirror over the existing mirror. I didn't know what to do with the smaller one, and the mirror already in the bathroom was so HUGE. This just breaks it up a little bit, makes it more interesting AND it's still all usable!!!

I made this shower curtain while we were in the rental house. I was going to paint this part of the bathroom, also, before we moved in. But just got sick of painting the 4 other rooms I did in a week!
Guest Bathroom AFTER:
I just added a little "mistreatment" (as the Nester calls them) to the window and it looks so much more complete!
Then I added some fabric to cover where I stash everything under the vanity

  3. I love the brown table under the mirror that was Grandma's! She'd be so happy that you have it right as you walk in the door and that it's getting good use:)
